Ex-Judge Giribala Singh Arrested in Daughter-in-Law Twisha Sharma Death Case

Former judge Giribala Singh has been arrested in connection with the death case of her daughter-in-law, Twisha Sharma, in a development that has intensified the high-profile investigation being conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The arrest came after the Madhya Pradesh High Court cancelled the anticipatory bail earlier granted to Singh, observing serious concerns regarding the case and alleged non-cooperation with the investigation.

Twisha Sharma, a 33-year-old former model and actor originally from Noida, was found dead at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12. Her family alleged that she was subjected to dowry harassment and physical abuse after her marriage to advocate Samarth Singh in December 2025.

High Court Cancels Bail

The Madhya Pradesh High Court late Wednesday night quashed Giribala Singh’s anticipatory bail after hearing petitions filed by Twisha Sharma’s family and the state government. The court reportedly took note of WhatsApp chats, alleged injury marks on the victim’s body, and claims that the accused had not cooperated with investigators.

The court also observed that the allegations were serious in nature and required detailed investigation. Following the order, the CBI moved swiftly and arrested the retired judicial officer from Bhopal.

Dowry Harassment Allegations

According to the FIR and complaints made by Twisha’s family, the victim allegedly faced continuous harassment over dowry demands after her marriage. Reports claimed that ₹2 lakh was allegedly demanded during the marriage rituals and that Twisha had informed her family about being assaulted by her husband.

Her relatives also questioned the circumstances surrounding her death and alleged attempts to influence the investigation. The family claimed that there were visible injury marks on Twisha’s body and demanded an independent probe.

Husband Also Under Scanner

Twisha Sharma’s husband, advocate Samarth Singh, was earlier arrested by Bhopal Police after remaining absconding for several days. Police clarified that he was apprehended near a court complex in Jabalpur and had not surrendered voluntarily.

The Bar Council had also reportedly suspended Samarth Singh from legal practice amid the controversy.

Meanwhile, the CBI officially took over the investigation from Bhopal Police following directions issued by authorities amid mounting public attention and pressure from the victim’s family. A special CBI team has since been examining evidence, statements, digital records, and forensic details connected to the case.

Case Draws National Attention

The involvement of a retired judge and allegations of dowry harassment have made the case a major national issue. Twisha Sharma’s family has repeatedly alleged that influential individuals attempted to delay or weaken the investigation.

The High Court’s decision to cancel anticipatory bail and the subsequent arrest of Giribala Singh are now being viewed as major developments in the ongoing probe.

The investigation continues, and officials have indicated that more evidence is being examined to determine the exact circumstances leading to Twisha Sharma’s death.
