Brother-in-Law of Ex-Panipat MLA held in Ambala for Liquor Smuggling

Ambala: The Crime Branch on Saturday arrested Ravi, the brother-in-law of former Congress MLA Dharam Singh Chhokar, from Ambala City in connection with an alleged liquor smuggling racket.

Police said Ravi had been absconding for a long time and was under close surveillance. Acting on secret information about his presence in Ambala and his plans for a major illegal deal, a Crime Branch team tracked his movements and launched a raid that led to his arrest.

The accused was taken to the Civil Hospital in Ambala City for a medical examination before being moved into custody. He is now being interrogated by the Crime Branch.

According to officials, Ravi’s questioning is expected to provide crucial leads about the scale of the smuggling network and possible links with interstate or even international gangs. “We are probing his associates and the extent of the racket. More arrests are likely,” a senior police officer said.

The Crime Branch has registered a case and further investigation is underway.
