Explosion on railway line ahead of Republic Day, engine of goods train damaged in Sirhind

A powerful explosion occurred on the railway line in Sirhind, Fatehgarh Sahib, Punjab, just 48 hours before Republic Day. The incident damaged the engine of a freight train, and its driver sustained injuries. According to sources, the explosion was extremely powerful, and there are suspicions that RDX was used for it.

Incident on Friday late night  

The incident occurred around 11 PM on Friday when a freight train was passing over a newly laid railway line. This new line is specifically designed for freight trains and is part of the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC).

As the freight train’s engine approached the Khanpur level crossing, a sudden and powerful explosion occurred. The intensity of the blast was so great that approximately 12 feet of the railway line was completely destroyed. The railway tracks and sleepers were shattered.

The driver sustained injuries

The train driver sustained injuries in the explosion and was taken to the hospital for first aid. Panic ensued in the area after the incident. Railway authorities were immediately informed. Railway teams arrived at the scene during the night and repaired the track.

Police officials have confirmed the explosion. However, they are unwilling to comment on the cause of the blast. The police have launched an investigation into the incident from various angles.
