Extreme Heat in Haryana: Meteorological Department Issues Orange Alert; Rohtak Hottest

The onslaught of severe heat continues in Haryana. On Wednesday, too, scorching heatwaves left people in distress. The roads appeared deserted during the afternoon hours. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be no immediate relief from the heat for the public. Temperatures of 45 degrees Celsius or higher have been recorded in five districts of the state.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday, the mercury peaked at 46.9 degrees Celsius in Rohtak—a figure 6.2 degrees higher than normal. The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for severe heat and heatwaves across the state until May 25. Consequently, an ‘Orange Alert’ has been issued, remaining in effect until May 25. Heatwave conditions have been specifically recorded in Rohtak and Sirsa.

According to the Meteorological Department, the weather in Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh is expected to remain predominantly dry for the next 5 to 6 days. There is no likelihood of rainfall. No significant change in maximum temperatures is anticipated over the next seven days. In southern and western Haryana, temperatures could soar to between 45 and 47 degrees Celsius, while in other regions, temperatures are projected to hover between 42 and 45 degrees Celsius.

Temperatures exceeding 42 degrees Celsius have been recorded across all districts of Haryana. Meanwhile, Bhiwani recorded a minimum temperature of 30 degrees Celsius—the highest minimum temperature recorded in the state. According to the Meteorological Department, specific temperature readings were recorded as follows: 45.3 degrees in Hisar, 45 degrees in Narnaul, 46.4 degrees in Sirsa, 46 degrees in Faridabad, and 45.2 degrees in Jind.

Advisory from the Meteorological Department
The Meteorological Department has advised the public to avoid venturing out into the sun during the afternoon hours, to drink adequate amounts of water, to wear light cotton clothing, and to keep their heads covered when stepping outdoors. Farmers have been advised to irrigate their crops during the early morning or evening hours to minimize the adverse effects of the heat. North India, including Haryana, is currently experiencing scorching heat. According to the Meteorological Department, people will not get any relief until May 25.
