A series of protests erupted in Sandeshkhali earlier this month against the allegations of land grab and sexual harassment by the 42-year-old TMC leader.
It is to be noted that the development comes a day after the Calcutta High Court directed that he could be arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), the Enforcement Directorate (ED), or the West Bengal police.
Hours after the prime accused of Sandeshkhali violence incidents, Sheikh Shahjahan, absconding Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader, was arrested by the West Bengal Police on Thursday, Governor CV Ananda Bose said that the development is an “eye-opener for everyone”.
Bose told reporters, “Today in Bengal, we see the beginning of an end. The arrest of the prime accused in the Sandeshkhali incidents is an eye-opener for everyone. This is only the beginning. We have to put an end to violence in Bengal.”
