Faridabad: Three arrested for alleged rape, blackmail using obscene video; ₹50,000 extortion demand reported

Faridabad: A friendship formed at her maternal grandparents’ home in Bihar turned into a nightmare for a young woman from Faridabad. A young man, who worked as a ‘Qazi’ (religious officiant) at a mosque, is accused of raping the woman after gaining her trust and recording an objectionable video of her.

Later, this video fell into the hands of two of his associates, who began demanding ₹50,000 from the woman, threatening to make the video viral on social media.

Acting on the complaint, the Faridabad police conducted a raid in Bihar and arrested three accused individuals, including the *Qazi*.

The police produced all three accused in court and sent them to jail.

According to the police, the woman had visited her maternal grandparents’ home in Bihar in 2019. During this time, she met Qamar Raja, a resident of Sariya village in Muzaffarpur district. Qamar Raja worked as a *Qazi* at the village mosque. It is alleged that he gained the woman’s trust, engaged in sexual relations with her, and recorded objectionable photos and videos.

Video retrieved from mobile; blackmailing began

Police investigation revealed that after recording the video, the accused continued to mentally and physically exploit the woman. She remained silent about the matter for a long time. In June 2026, Qamar Raja’s mobile phone fell into the hands of two of his associates. Mohammad Shahnawaz (a resident of Mansurpur Chamrua, Muzaffarpur) and Sadman (a resident of Bathna Deeh) began threatening the woman based on the objectionable videos and photos found on the phone.

Approached police after photos and videos went viral

The accused demanded ₹50,000 from her, threatening to circulate the material on social media. When the woman discovered that her photos and videos had gone viral, she lodged a complaint at the Women’s Police Station (Central) on June 6. Based on the complaint, the police registered a case under various sections, including the POCSO Act, the IT Act, and charges related to extortion. Three accused arrested from Bihar

Police spokesperson Yashpal stated that teams from the Central Women’s Police Station and the Sector-16 Crime Branch conducted a raid in Bihar and arrested Kamar Raja, Mohammad Shahnawaz, and Saadman. The police also recovered mobile phones from the accused. After being produced in court, all three have been sent to jail in judicial custody. The investigation into the matter is ongoing.
