FARIDABAD: In a high-stakes early morning encounter on Tuesday, the Faridabad Crime Branch (Sector 30) successfully apprehended a notorious criminal involved in a major jewelry heist. The suspect, identified as Dharamveer (alias Babu), was cornered near the Surajkund area after a tip-off led police to his location.
The operation unfolded when the Crime Branch received specific intelligence regarding Dharamveer’s movements. According to police officials, the suspect was spotted on a motorcycle near the Surajkund road. When signaled to stop, Dharamveer allegedly opened fire on the police team in a desperate attempt to escape. In the retaliatory fire, the criminal was shot in the leg, effectively ending the pursuit. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital under heavy police security for treatment.
The arrest follows a brazen daylight robbery that took place on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Shree Ji Jewellers in Sarurpur village, Mujesar area. Three armed men, including Dharamveer, entered the showroom posing as customers. They quickly dropped the facade, brandishing a pistol and a knife at the owner, Sanjay Verma.
The robbers looted approximately 400 grams of gold and silver ornaments, valued at nearly ₹64 lakh. Before fleeing, they even snatched a gold bracelet directly from the owner’s hand. The entire incident was recorded on CCTV, which showed the suspects wearing helmets and masks to evade identification.
Dharamveer Babu is no stranger to the law. Preliminary investigations reveal that he is a “wanted” criminal with a long-standing history of violence. He has at least 11 criminal cases registered against him, ranging from murder and robbery to attempt to murder.
The Faridabad police had already arrested two other accomplices, including a suspect named Saqib from Muzaffarnagar, who was tracked down in Ghaziabad earlier this week. Dharamveer was reportedly the mastermind behind the recent heist and was planning further criminal activities in the NCR region.
“Our teams have been working tirelessly since the Sarurpur robbery. The arrest of Dharamveer is a significant breakthrough for the Faridabad Police,” stated a senior official. Police have recovered a portion of the looted jewelry and the weapon used in the encounter. Further raids are being conducted to recover the remaining gold and to identify any other local conduits who may have provided reconnaissance for the gang.
