Farmers’ Group Seeks PM Modi’s Intervention on 10 Key Demands

The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, placing 10 key demands related to farmers and the agriculture sector. The organization has demanded that agriculture, dairy, poultry, and fisheries sectors be excluded from the proposed India-US trade agreement.

Legal guarantee on MSP and C2+50% formula

The farmers’ organization has demanded the enactment of an MSP guarantee law to ensure complete procurement of all crops at MSP. Additionally, the demand to fix MSP by adding 50% to the C2 cost, as recommended by the Swaminathan Commission, has been reiterated. The organization has also demanded complete loan waiver for farmers.

Demand for compensation for land acquisition and power lines

Farmers have demanded the re-implementation of the provisions of the 2013 Land Acquisition Act. Furthermore, a national policy has been demanded to provide adequate compensation to farmers affected by high-tension power lines.

Demand for sugarcane price, disaster relief, and withdrawal of lawsuits

The organization has demanded that the FRP for sugarcane be raised to at least ₹600 per quintal and payment be ensured within 14 days. The letter also calls for a national policy to compensate for losses caused by floods, droughts, and other natural disasters, changes to the crop insurance scheme, and the withdrawal of lawsuits filed during farmer protests.
