Chandigarh: The Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ekta Ugrahan) and Punjab Khet Mazdoor Union have started their protest and dharna at Dussehra ground in Chandigarh for their eight demands. This protest of farmers will continue till 5th September.

Farmers will protest for 8 demands, including farming policy and loan waivers for farmers. Union President Joginder Singh Ugrahan and General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Kokri Kalan stated that this is a significant protest.

The Chandigarh administration has granted permission for the protest to take place at Sector 34 Dussehra Ground. Additionally, the United Kisan Morcha is organizing a Kisan Panchayat on September 2, and the strategy for the protest will be determined in a meeting on September 5.

Farmer leaders said that the monsoon session of the Punjab Legislative Assembly will begin on September 2. In such a situation, a demand letter will be submitted to the government by the union. After this, it will be seen during the session what decision has been taken by the government.

The session will conclude on September 4. After this, the union will hold meetings on September 5. Further strategy will be made in this. Farmers will participate in the demonstration along with their families. Farmer leaders said that they have been continuously demanding to formulate a farming policy for the last one and a half years.

But no initiative is being taken by the government. The committee formed to formulate the farming policy had prepared a report in October last year and submitted it to the government. But no action is being taken by the government. This is the result of the government’s anti-farmer and anti-labor intentions and policies that are in favour of corporate houses, landlords and influential people.
