Jalandhar:  Farmers had staged a protest today against the CNG plant on the highway in Bhogpur, which comes under Jalandhar district. Farmers had staged a protest by putting up tents on Jalandhar-Jammu National Highway and were protesting that they will not allow the proposed CNG plant to be set up in Bhogpur under any circumstances.

Due to the protest on the highway, there was a long traffic jam on both sides. After which there was a stir in the administration and police. Police and administration people reached the spot and started persuading the farmers. Administration officials assured the farmers that a CNG plant will not be set up in Bhogpur. Administration officials said that the plan to set up a CNG plant was of the previous government, but no work is being done on it in the new government. At present, the matter of setting up the plant is in cold storage.

After the assurance of the administration, the farmers lifted their protest and also uprooted the tent set up on the highway. Due to the short protest on the highway, people had to face a lot of problems in the jam. Many drivers came and went towards Pathankot and Jalandhar via the villages.

Farmers have today blocked the Jalandhar-Pathankot highway in Bhogpur market in protest against this plant. Farmers have set up tents in the middle of the highway and sat on a dharna . Due to the closure of the highway by the farmers, there are long queues of vehicles coming from Jalandhar and Pathankot.
Rumors of processing municipal waste at Bhogpur, says Administrator

Administrator Bhogpur Cooperative Sugar Mill Sangram Singh dismissed rumours about the processing of municipal waste at the upcoming Bio CNG plant in the sugar mill as baseless. Administrator-cum-Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies stated that as per the MOU signed with the company, there is no provision for processing municipal waste at this plant.

Accompanied by General Manager Bhogpur Sugar Mill Surinder Pal, the Administrator revealed that the plant will use only ‘press mud’ generated during cane crushing as fuel to operate the plant.
