Farmers in Punjab to burn effigies of Modi and Trump today; protests to be held outside homes of BJP leaders

The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has announced a major protest against the central government over the US-India agreement. The organization stated that today, June 24, effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump will be burned outside Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) offices and the residences of prominent leaders across Punjab.

Announcing this nationwide protest, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that the US-India agreement amounts to handing over the country’s agricultural sector and various economic structures to corporate interests. He warned that if the government does not stop compromising the interests of farmers and laborers, the agitation could intensify further.

During the announcement, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher described the agreement as a direct assault on the agricultural sector and the nation’s economic sovereignty. According to him, it would have severe adverse effects on Indian farmers and various economic sectors. He alleged that the policy is designed to benefit corporate houses—a move that would not be accepted under any circumstances. Large-scale protests will be held across Punjab tomorrow in opposition to this.

Police Administration on Alert

The police and intelligence agencies have gone into alert mode following the announcement of plans to besiege BJP offices and the residences of VIP leaders—such as Captain Amarinder Singh and Ashwani Sharma—and to burn effigies across 21 districts of Punjab on a single day. Instructions have been issued to deploy additional police forces at all protest sites as a security measure. The Kisan Mazdoor Morcha has clarified that the protest will be entirely peaceful, though it will involve a large number of farmers and laborers taking to the streets to register their dissent.
