Farmers to march towards Delhi on Feb 21; Govt will be responsible for whatever happens: Pandher

Chandigarh: In a press conference last night, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said after the discussion with all farmers have rejected the proposal by the central government. He also said that the farmers will move towards Delhi on February 21 at 11 am.

Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal rejected the proposal of government by saying that it has nothing in favor of farmers and therefore they reject it.

Yesterday, A committee of 3 Union ministers had proposed a 5-year agreement for purchasing pulses, maize and cotton at MSP by government agencies. The committee of 3 Union ministers – Piyush Goyal, Arjun Munda and Nityanand Rai had presented this proposal to the farmers during the fourth round of talks in Chandigarh on Sunday.

On the ‘Delhi Chalo’ march scheduled for Feb 21, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher said that the intention of government is clear that they don’t want farmers to enter the National capital at any cost. He added that farmers should be allowed to march towards Delhi as no solution has come out from the discussions held.

He also said there should be punishment for those using tear gas, bullets on the farmers and their tractors. He even compared the situation in Haryana with that of Kashmir. He affirmed that farmers will march tomorrow towards Delhi. He said that proposal was nothing but a way to backtrack farmers from their original demands. He even said that now government will be responsible for whatever happened now.

Demands of Agitating Farmers

Protesting farmers have nearly 14 demands which include, legal law for MSP on all crops, implementation of the Swaminathan report, loan waiver of farmers and labourers, pension of Rs 10,000 to farmers above age 60, 200 days of employment instead of 100 under MNREGA.
