Farmers to protest at 12 locations in Amritsar today; effigies of central and state governments to be burned

Following a call by the All India Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), effigy-burning protests and demonstrations against the central and state governments are being held today across 22 districts of Punjab. Farmers are set to protest at 12 locations in Amritsar, including Golden Gate, Rayya, Jandiala Guru, Mehta Chowk, Kathunangal Toll Plaza, Majitha, Khatra-e-Kalan, Ramdas, Gaggomahal Chowk, Ajnala, Lopoke, and Khasa.

Farmer leaders have alleged a severe shortage of urea fertilizer in several parts of the country, including Punjab. They claim that urea is being black-marketed in the open market, while farmers are being forced by cooperative societies to purchase additional products, such as Nano Urea, alongside urea. The farmers have demanded that the government ensure the availability of adequate quantities of urea fertilizer at fixed rates.

Farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher stated that they are also protesting against the rising prices of diesel, petrol, and LPG. Furthermore, resentment was expressed regarding land acquisition taking place without the farmers’ consent in states such as Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Punjab, and Haryana.
