Farmers upset with broken road on state highway, blockade on Kurukshetra road

Farmers under the banner of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ratanman) today blocked the Yamunanagar-Kurukshetra State Highway from the Saharanpur-Panchkula National Highway to Damla, protesting the broken road. The blockade has been ongoing for about 30 minutes. The farmers sat on the road and raised slogans against the government.

Jagadhri SDM Vishwanath and Radaur DSP Ashish Chaudhary arrived at the scene to speak to the farmers, but the farmers refused to listen. The officials offered assurances of temporary road repairs. The blockade led to a long queue of vehicles on the Yamunanagar-Kurukshetra road. Discussions are currently underway between the farmers and officials regarding clearing the blockage.

Road condition deteriorated 

BKU District President Subhash Gurjar stated that the road condition from Damla to Yamunanagar, stretching approximately one kilometer from the Panchkula Highway, has deteriorated significantly. The potholes are so large that they are difficult to navigate. The problem is further exacerbated by the water filling the potholes during rain. Someone is getting injured daily due to potholes.

Farmer leaders had long ago requested the authorities to repair the road, but the officials ignored them. Last week, the farmers warned that they would block the road if it wasn’t repaired. Therefore, today, the farmers blocked the road in Damla.

Large police force deployed 

A large police force was deployed during the blockade. Previously, the PWD Department Executive Engineer had promised to completely repair the road by August 15th of last year, but nothing happened.

Farmer leaders Pradeep Nagla, Deep Rana Numberdar, Man Singh Mazafat, Mahendra Kamboj, Chamrodi, Yadavindra Kamboj, Jaipur, Subhash Sharma, Satpal Manakpur, Jasvir Numberdar, S. Sukhdev Singh, Ashok Dangi, Kulwinder Sidhu, Ravinderpal, Subhash Hartol, and others were present.
