Fatehabad: Father sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his only son

The District Court has sentenced Sarjeet Singh to life imprisonment for murdering his only son, 17-year-old Paramjit, while under the influence of alcohol about a year and a half ago in Bhuthan Kalan village, Fatehabad.

A fine of ₹10,000 has also been imposed on the convict, Sarjeet Singh. The sentence was pronounced by the court of District and Sessions Judge Deepak Agrawal. The court convicted the accused based on witnesses, medical reports, and other evidence presented by the prosecution, subsequently handing down the life sentence.

An FIR was registered against the accused father based on a complaint filed by the deceased’s mother, Roshni Devi. According to the complaint, Sarjeet Singh had arrived home intoxicated. An argument ensued between him and his only son over an issue.

In a fit of rage, he struck his son forcefully on the head with a wooden stick, resulting in the boy’s death. Following the incident, family members rushed the injured teenager to the hospital for treatment, but doctors declared him dead on arrival. Upon receiving the information, the police and an FSL team arrived at the scene to collect evidence.

District Attorney Devendra Mittal stated that Assistant District Attorney Arun Bansal effectively represented the prosecution in court. During the hearing, statements from eyewitnesses, medical evidence, and other proofs were presented. Based on all the evidence, the court found Sarjeet Singh guilty of murdering his teenage son and sentenced him to life imprisonment.

Mother had gone to visit her daughter
In her complaint to the police, Roshni Devi stated that she has two children—a daughter and a son. Her daughter is married, while her son, Paramjit, was unmarried. On December 20, 2024, she had gone to her daughter Kiran’s in-laws’ house in Chikanwas. She received information that her husband, Sarjeet Singh, had killed their son Paramjit (17)

Upon returning home, her husband, Sarjeet Singh, tearfully confessed that, while intoxicated the previous night, he had killed their son Paramjit by striking him on the head with a stick.
