Female Sub-Inspector arrested in Phillaur for accepting Rs 20,000 bribe

The Vigilance Bureau has arrested Amandeep Kaur, a female Sub-Inspector posted at the Phillaur police station in Jalandhar, while she was accepting a bribe of ₹20,000. The officer, who had joined the police force under the sports quota, had demanded the money in exchange for returning the motorcycle and mobile phone of an accused arrested in a drug-related case and for facilitating his early bail.

Narcotic pills were recovered from the accused

A few days earlier, the Phillaur police had arrested an accused named Happy—a resident of Mohalla Chaudhrian, Phillaur—who had been absconding in a drug trafficking case. The police had recovered over 100 narcotic pills from his possession. At the time of his arrest, he was riding a motorcycle, and a mobile phone was also seized from him.

Bribe of ₹25,000 was demanded for returning belongings

Following her son’s arrest, his mother, Raj Rani, visited the Phillaur police station. She requested Sub-Inspector Amandeep Kaur to return her son’s mobile phone and motorcycle, noting that while her son had been sent to jail, these items had not been included in the case’s FIR. It is alleged that the Sub-Inspector demanded ₹25,000 in exchange for this

    Deal settled at ₹20,000

Raj Rani paid an advance of ₹1,000 to the female police officer and proposed settling the matter for ₹20,000. Amandeep Kaur agreed to this. The Sub-Inspector assured her that upon receiving the remaining amount, she would not only return the belongings but also assist in securing the accused’s early bail from the court.

The distressed family complains to Vigilance

Speaking to the media, the complainant, Raj Rani, stated that Sub-Inspector Amandeep Kaur was calling her multiple times a day to press for the bribe money. Distressed by the female officer’s conduct, she lodged a complaint with senior officials of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau.

Following the complaint, a Vigilance team led by DSP Ashok Kumar laid a trap outside the Phillaur police station. As soon as Raj Rani entered the police station and handed over ₹20,000—treated with a chemical—to female Sub-Inspector Amandeep Kaur, the team arrested her on the spot on Sunday. The Vigilance Department is taking further legal action in the matter.
