Major arms smuggling bust near Indo-Pak border: 27 pistols, 470 cartridges seized, two arrested

Ferozepur, September 11: In a significant breakthrough, the Counter-Intelligence Unit of Ferozepur Zone, in a joint operation with the Special Security and Operations Cell (SSOC), Fazilka, busted an organised cross-border arms smuggling module near the Indo-Pak international border. The police seized 27 illegal pistols (.30 bore) and 470 live cartridges, arresting two suspects in the process.

The arrested accused, identified as Mangal Singh alias Mangli and Gurmeet Singh, were allegedly trying to supply these arms to the ground operators of criminal gangs in Punjab under the directions of foreign handlers based in Pakistan. Preliminary investigation reveals that the arms were procured from Pakistan through a foreign-based organisation.

The authorities are conducting further investigations to trace the entire smuggling network, including forward and backward links, and identify all the members involved.

This operation highlights the continuous efforts of the Punjab Police to stop cross-border arms smuggling and dismantle criminal syndicates operating in the region.
