    FIH World Cup Qualifiers: Korea and Wales teams arrive in Hyderabad

    Hyderabad: The South Korean and Wales women’s hockey teams have arrived in Hyderabad ahead of the FIH Hockey Women’s World Cup 2026 Qualifiers. This eight-nation tournament will be played from March 8 to 14, with three teams qualifying for the World Cup to be held in Belgium and the Netherlands.

    Korea’s experience, Wales’ new dream

    Under captain Lee Yuri, Korea has played in the World Cup nine times. Their goal is to repeat their bronze medal performance in 1990.

    Meanwhile, Wales are brimming with confidence after finishing runners-up at the 2025 EuroHockey Championship II and will be aiming for a World Cup berth for the first time since 1983.

    Pool divisions and matches

    Korea is placed in Pool A along with England, Italy, and Austria. Wales is in Pool B with India, Scotland, and Uruguay.

    Earlier, the teams from England, India, and Scotland have also arrived in Hyderabad and are preparing.

    England and India’s Preparations

    England has participated in the FIH World Cup 11 times, with the bronze medal in 2010 being its best performance. Team captain Flora Peel said that England recently prepared strongly by playing in the Pro League in China.

    Host India held a month-long special training camp in Bengaluru. Captain Salima Tete said that the home ground and the support of the fans will be a source of inspiration for the team. Their goal is to give their best in every match and qualify for the World Cup.

    Tough competition for three spots

    Eight teams have been divided into two pools, and there will be a tough competition for a total of three spots. This tournament in Hyderabad is considered crucial for women’s hockey, as it will determine the path to the 2026 World Cup.
