Finance Ministry official killed, Wife critical after BMW rams bike in Delhi

New Delhi: A senior Finance Ministry official was killed and his wife critically injured on Sunday evening after their motorcycle was hit by a speeding BMW near Dhaula Kuan in Delhi.

The victim, Navjot Singh, served as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Economic Affairs under the Ministry of Finance. Police said Singh and his wife were returning home after paying obeisance at Bangla Sahib Gurdwara when the luxury car struck their bike on Ring Road.

According to officials, police control room received several calls about a traffic jam at the spot. Responding teams found a BMW turned sideways and a damaged motorcycle near the road divider. Eyewitnesses told investigators that a woman was driving the BMW, accompanied by her husband. The couple reportedly stopped briefly, then took a taxi and shifted the injured to hospital.

Singh was rushed to Newlife Hospital in GTB Nagar, nearly 17 km away, where doctors declared him dead on arrival. His wife remains in critical condition. Singh’s family has questioned why the victims were not taken to the nearest hospital.

The BMW, which had deployed airbags and suffered extensive damage, has been seized. Police confirmed the occupants of the car, residents of Gurugram, also sustained injuries. The husband is said to be a businessman.

A crime team and forensic experts examined the site. Police said an FIR is being registered and legal proceedings are underway.
