Fire Breaks Out at Amritsar’s Shaheed Ganj Sahib Gurdwara; Chaos Ensues

A fire broke out in a tent at Gurdwara Baba Deep Singh Ji Shaheed Ganj Sahib in Amritsar. This caused panic and chaos among the devotees present at the site. As soon as the fire flared up, the congregation (Sangat) and volunteers (Sevadaars) immediately sprang into action to extinguish it. This tent had been erected to provide shelter to devotees from the scorching heat.

According to reports, the fire was caused by a short circuit in the electrical wiring. Just four days prior, on Sunday, the scaffolding in the Langar (community kitchen) hall of this very Gurdwara had collapsed. That incident resulted in the deaths of two women who were reciting prayers, while approximately nine other devotees sustained injuries.

Fire in the Gurdwara Premises Tent
A tent had been set up within the complex of Gurdwara Shaheed Ganj Sahib. At 1:00 PM on Wednesday, smoke was suddenly seen billowing from one section of the tent. Subsequently, the flames began to spread rapidly. The outbreak of the fire created an atmosphere of panic and confusion. Devotees present within the premises were immediately evacuated to safer locations.

Meanwhile, the volunteers and congregation members present at the scene wasted no time and immediately initiated efforts to extinguish the fire. Attempts were made to bring the blaze under control using buckets of water and hoses. Thanks to the alertness and prompt action of the congregation and volunteers, the fire was completely brought under control within a short span of time. Fortunately, there was no loss of life in this incident.

Work Begins on Erecting New Tents
After the fire was extinguished, the Gurdwara management immediately cleared away the debris of the burnt tent and commenced the work of erecting new tents. The management stated that arrangements are being restored swiftly, keeping in mind the comfort of the congregation and the sanctity (*Maryada*) of the Gurdwara Sahib.

40-50 Volunteers and Congregation Members Bring Fire Under Control
Speaking to the media, Gurdyal Singh, a volunteer present at the scene, explained that the fire had erupted suddenly. Approximately 40 to 50 volunteers and congregation members present at the site worked together to bring the fire under control. He remarked that had the congregation not stepped forward in time, the incident could have resulted in significant damage.
