Fire Breaks Out in Barmer Readymade Garment Showroom, Children Rescued Safely

Rajasthan: A fire broke out in a readymade garment showroom in Barmer around 9 p.m. on Wednesday night, rapidly spreading to nearby shops. Although the fire brigade was alerted, it arrived three hours later. In the meantime, people on the scene rescued more than 10 children studying in a nearby library.

    Flames Spread Across Shops

The incident occurred near the Jambheshwar Temple in the Sedwa subdivision. The two-story complex houses more than 20 shops. The fire started at the Shriram Fashion Readymade Showroom on the ground floor and quickly engulfed four nearby shops.

Sedwa SDM Badrinarayan Vishnoi confirmed that police, PHED personnel, and the Border Security Force (BSF) arrived at the scene. With the help of local residents, the fire was brought under control in about two and a half hours.

    Children Evacuated Safely

More than 10 children studying in a library near the showroom were immediately evacuated to a safe place. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.

    Community Efforts and Firefighting Challenges

Locals, police, and BSF personnel worked together to extinguish the flames using soil, water, and tankers. Water plant operator Manohar Vishnoi also contributed by bringing tankers filled with filtered water. Despite their efforts, the absence of a local fire brigade delayed professional assistance, resulting in damage worth several lakhs of rupees.

Demand for Fire Brigade in Sedwa

Villagers and business owners expressed anger over the lack of a fire brigade in Sedwa, urging the administration and MLA to provide fire safety facilities at the subdivision headquarters to prevent similar incidents in the future.
