Fire caused by short circuit in Amritsar market: 2 shops gutted; traders seek financial aid

A fire broke out due to a short circuit in the main market of Jandiala Guru, Amritsar. Two shops were completely gutted in the blaze. The incident reportedly occurred around 2 AM on Tuesday. A utensil store and a fruit-juice shop were damaged in the fire.

According to reports, the fire broke out suddenly in the market late at night. It quickly intensified, engulfing the merchandise stored in both shops. Upon seeing the flames, locals rushed to the scene and alerted the shopkeepers.

Fire brought under control after strenuous effort

Before the fire brigade arrived, locals attempted to extinguish the fire themselves, preventing it from spreading to adjacent shops. Later, the fire brigade team arrived and managed to fully bring the blaze under control after a strenuous effort.

Goods worth lakhs reduced to ashes

Merchandise worth lakhs of rupees stored in the utensil store and the fruit-juice shop was reduced to ashes. Tarun Jain, the owner of the utensil store, stated that the shop was built through the hard work of several generations of his family, but the fire destroyed everything in a short span of time. His entire business has been affected by this incident, and he has sought financial assistance from the government.

Meanwhile, Sandeep Grover, the owner of the fruit and juice shop, said he was informed about the fire by people in the market via a phone call. When he arrived at the scene, the shop was already fully engulfed in flames. He reported that refrigerators, juice machines, and other essential equipment were destroyed in the fire.

Officials assess the damage

Upon receiving news of the incident, Municipal Council President Satinder Singh, Vice President Aman Virk, and other officials visited the site. They met with the affected shopkeepers, assessed the damage, and assured them of all possible assistance.

Risk of accidents due to exposed wiring

Meanwhile, market traders raised concerns about the electrical infrastructure, stating that the presence of old and exposed wiring poses a constant risk of accidents. They demanded that the administration urgently improve the electricity system to prevent such incidents in the future.
