Ludhiana, October 23: A firecracker exploded in a house near Cheema Chowk in Indira Colony, Ludhiana, on Sunday afternoon, injuring more than 10 people. The blast sparked a fire, burning household items and terrifying residents.
Balloons and potash were stored for making firecrackers.
According to locals, balloons and potash were stored in the house for making firecrackers and diesel fuel. MLA Ashok Parashar Pappi stated that the accident occurred due to the explosion of the potash. These items were stored for sale during Diwali next year.
A neighbour’s child was also injured
Neighbours rushed out after hearing the explosion and rushed the injured to the hospital. A child on the upper floor of a nearby house was also injured in the blast and has been hospitalised. Fire officer Jashin Kumar stated that the fire was extinguished by the time the fire brigade arrived.
Officials warned
A search operation will be conducted in the area following the incident. MLA Ashok Parashar has said that strict action will be taken against anyone who keeps firecrackers or explosive material without permission.
