Over 50 Firecracker-Triggered Fires Reported in Jalandhar on Diwali Night

Jalandhar: More than 50 incidents of fire were reported across Jalandhar on Diwali night, mostly triggered by sparks from firecrackers, officials said on Wednesday.

The fire department acted swiftly, bringing all the blazes under control with the help of around 70 fire engines deployed across the city.

Major Blaze at Chemical Factory in Basti Danish Manda

One of the most serious incidents occurred at a chemical factory in Basti Danish Manda, where a major fire broke out around 10 p.m. on Tuesday.

“The fire was caused by fireworks, and our team managed to bring it under control within an hour after rigorous efforts,” said Fire Department official Avneesh Sondhi.

Fires in Residential Areas and Open Plots

Separate fire incidents were also reported in a house near Durga Temple in Amrik Nagar, Kishanpura, and in Shakti Nagar, where goods stored outside a house caught fire due to cracker sparks.

The fire department quickly doused both blazes before they could spread.

Additionally, vacant plots and garbage dumps in various localities caught fire due to stray fireworks.

No Casualties Reported

Officials confirmed that no casualties or major injuries were reported in any of the incidents. The department said it remained on high alert throughout the night to respond to emergency calls during the festive celebrations.
