Firing in Baghapurana: Shots fired late at night in MLA’s village, one person killed; old enmity suspected

A young man was killed in a late-night shooting incident in Sukhanand village, located within the Baghapurana sub-division of Moga district. The MLA representing Baghapurana hails from this very village.

The deceased has been identified as Jaskaran Singh, alias Gaggu, a resident of Chida village. Upon receiving information about the incident, the Baghapurana DSP and SI Mangal Singh arrived at the scene with a police team and initiated an investigation.

Baghapurana DSP Jaswinder Singh Khaira stated that the shooting took place late at night. Jaskaran sustained critical gunshot injuries; although he was being rushed to the hospital for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on the way. Preliminary investigations have identified the shooter as Amandeep Singh.

He further mentioned that cases under the NDPS Act had previously been registered against the accused. According to the police, initial inquiries revealed a long-standing enmity between the deceased and the accused, which is suspected to be the motive behind the incident. Separate police teams have been formed to apprehend the accused, and authorities have expressed confidence that he will be arrested soon.
