“They’ll First Show Their Results”: Mamata Banerjee Raises Concerns Over BJP’s ‘Plan’

New Delhi: Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee, in her first reaction during the counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections, alleged that the BJP is executing a “planned strategy” to influence early trends. Initial figures indicate the BJP taking a strong lead in the state.

In a video message, Banerjee said she had anticipated such a move, claiming that the BJP would project its leads first while delaying those of the Trinamool Congress. She asserted that her party would continue to fight strongly.

As per early trends, the BJP is leading in 190 seats, while the Trinamool Congress is ahead in 99 seats in the 294-member Assembly.

Banerjee reiterated her criticism of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter rolls, stating that nearly 89 lakh voters—around 11.6% of the electorate—were removed, which she believes has impacted the electoral outcome.

She urged party candidates and counting agents to remain present at counting centres, alleging that counting had been paused in several locations after initial rounds. She also claimed discrepancies in voting machines in Kalyani and accused central forces of interfering in the process.

The Chief Minister further alleged that accurate leads of her party in several constituencies were not being reported and accused the Election Commission of bias. She also claimed that state police were functioning under pressure from central forces.

Calling on her supporters to remain patient, Banerjee said that only a few rounds of counting had been completed so far, while many more remained. She expressed confidence that the final outcome would be in her party’s favour and urged workers to stay united and not lose hope.
