Five killed, two injured in separate road accidents in Jharkhand

Giridih (Jharkhand): Five people were killed and two others were seriously injured in two separate road accidents in Jharkhand’s West Singhbhum and Giridih districts, officials said on Tuesday.

The West Singhbhum accident occurred near Kudapi Down, under the Hatgamharia police station area, where a trailer truck collided with a car. Three occupants of the car died on the spot, while two others sustained serious injuries.

The front portion of the car was completely damaged in the collision. An eight-to-nine-month-old infant travelling in the vehicle escaped with minor scratches and has been kept under medical observation.

According to police, the family in the car was travelling from Chhattisgarh towards Tatanagar when the trailer truck, coming from the opposite direction, hit their vehicle.

Police, with the help of local residents, pulled the injured out of the mangled car and rushed them to a hospital. After receiving first aid, they were referred to Jamshedpur for better treatment.

The trailer driver fled the spot following the accident. Police have seized both vehicles, while efforts are underway to identify the deceased.

The second accident occurred near Baddiha under the Mufassil police station area in Giridih district.

Suraj Turi (22) and Tulsi Das were returning home on a motorcycle after celebrating a friend’s birthday when an unidentified goods vehicle hit them, killing both on the spot.

The impact was so severe that the motorcycle was thrown about 50 metres off the road.

Angered by the accident, family members of the victims and local residents blocked the Giridih-Ranchi road, demanding that the vehicle be identified and action taken against its driver.

The blockade was lifted around 3 a.m. on Tuesday after police officials intervened and assured the protesters of appropriate action.

Mufassil police station in-charge Gyan Ranjan said police were investigating the case and trying to identify and trace the unidentified vehicle.

Officials also assured the families of assistance in securing compensation.
