New Delhi: Amid widespread flight disruptions, Air India on Tuesday announced that it has intensified preparations to reduce passenger inconvenience during the upcoming fog season. The airline outlined measures such as CAT III B crew rostering, deploying CAT III B-certified aircraft, network-wide airport preparedness, technology-enabled passenger support, and proactive communication.
CAT III B crew rostering and certified aircraft refer to assigning specially trained flight crews along with aircraft capable of landing in low-visibility conditions.
‘Fog Care’ Initiative Re-activated for Passenger Support
The airline has re-activated its ‘Fog Care’ initiative to support travellers during delays or schedule changes caused by weather conditions beyond its control, the release said.
Under this initiative, flights likely to be affected by fog—based on meteorological forecasts—are identified in advance, and passengers are alerted about potential delays or schedule modifications.
Passengers can also avail complimentary rescheduling or choose a full refund without penalty through Air India Fog Care.
Operational Measures During Fog Window
Northern India, including Air India’s primary hub Delhi, experiences dense fog that can significantly disrupt flight schedules across the network. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation has designated December 10, 2025, to February 10, 2026, as the official fog period this season.
Air India said it has strengthened internal SOPs and implemented proactive steps to mitigate fog-related delays. These include deploying adequately trained cockpit crew certified for low-visibility operations through CAT III B or specific Instrument Landing System (ILS) procedures, and preparing standby crews for urgent needs.
CAT III B-certified aircraft will also be positioned at key fog-prone airports for operations during the fog window.
Passenger Assistance and Ground Support
The airline said it has ensured strong ground support teams to assist passengers and prepared care kits with refreshments and resources at both origin and diversion airports. Airport teams will continuously monitor delays, make regular announcements, and proactively rebook affected passengers on alternative flights.
