Flood alert on as Pong Dam water level crosses danger level, rescue operation on

Due to rain and continuous release of water from dams, 7 districts in Punjab are in the grip of floods. These include Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Kapurthala, Ferozepur, and Fazilka. More than 150 villages have been affected so far. Many areas are filled with water up to 5 to 7 feet.

More than 2000 people were rescued and taken to relief camps in Ferozepur. Army, NDRF, Police and other agencies are engaged in relief and rescue work. Land and water vehicles have been landed in the flood-affected areas.

However, the matter of relief is that there is no rain alert today (Thursday). This is likely to provide some relief from the rising waters of the Ravi river.

Earlier, about 15 villages in Ajnala, Amritsar, were affected; now, this figure has increased to around 25. A rescue operation is going on here. Some villages of Amritsar have been evacuated due to the continuous rise in the water level of Ravi. The administration announced this this morning.

Due to rain in Himachal and Jammu, the water level of Talwara Pong Dam has increased from the danger mark of 1390 feet to 1396 feet. BBMB has decided to release 1 lakh 10 thousand cusecs of water into the Beas River at 2 pm today. For this, a high alert has been issued in all the villages of Himachal and Punjab and the civil administration has been asked to be prepared to deal with every disaster.

Similarly, the water level of Ranjit Sagar Dam has also reached the danger mark of 527 feet. Although the water level of the Bhakra Dam is below the danger mark, its 4 gates have been opened.

People’s problems have increased due to floods in Pathankot and Gurdaspur. Most of the villages here are filled with water. The gates of Madhopur Headworks, built on the Ravi River, were broken. At the same time, traffic on the Pathankot-Jammu highway was also disrupted due to waterlogging.
