Flood like situation in 6 districts, water to be released from Pong Dam

Due to heavy rains in the neighboring state of Himachal, water being released from the dams has created flood-like conditions in 6 districts of Punjab. However, there is no alert of heavy rain from today i.e. 20th August, till the next three days i.e. 23rd.

But there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at some places. Over the last 24 hours, the state’s temperature has increased by 2.4 degrees. It has returned to a close to normal temperature. The highest temperature of 39.8 degrees has been recorded in Faridkot.

Light to moderate rain likely in 10 districts

According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely at some places in Pathankot, Hoshiarpur, Rupnagar, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala districts today. However, if we talk about the coming days, there is a possibility of light to moderate rain at some places on 20 and 22 August. There is a possibility of rain at most places on 23 August. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert on this day. After this, there is a possibility of heavy rain till 25th.

Bhakra Dam gates opened up to two feet

Four flood gates were opened by Bhakra Beas Management Board on Tuesday afternoon. During this, 45 thousand cusecs of water was released. Half the water was released in Sutlej river and the rest in canals. Flood gates were opened only up to two feet. DC Varinder Walia said that there is no need to panic, because Bhakra Dam is still much below the danger mark.

On the other hand, due to the decrease in the water level of Ravi and Ujj rivers, the situation has started improving in the border areas of Pathankot and Gurdaspur. The water of Beas in Kapurthala has also started decreasing a bit. But the situation remains the same in more than 25 villages of Mand area, due to which the problem persists.

Water will be released from Pong Dam today

75 thousand cusecs of water will be released from Pong Dam today also. On Tuesday, the water level of the dam reached 1383.03 feet, which is 7 feet below the danger mark.

This is how the damage happened in 6 districts

Waterlogging has occurred in 6 districts of the state. Hundreds of villages and 14 thousand 200 acres of farmland have been affected. Ferozepur, Fazilka and Kapurthala are the most affected. Connectivity of some villages has been lost. The Punjab government has issued a high alert in dozens of villages in Fazilka, Ferozepur, Tarn Taran, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur and Kapurthala districts. 172 ambulances and 438 NDRF teams have been deployed.
