Flood like situation in 7 districts of Punjab, Heavy rain warning still in effect

Due to heavy rains and release of water from dams in Punjab, a flood-like situation has arisen in 7 districts of the state. More than 150 villages have been affected by the flood. People’s houses and fields have been submerged in water. Bridges and roads have also been damaged. Heavy rain is likely to fall in the state today as well. However, administration teams are engaged in relief work. Holidays have been declared in all schools till the 30th.

Red alert has been issued in five districts of the state, including Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Barnala, Mansa and Sangrur. While Orange alert has been issued in 12 districts and Yellow alert in five. Due to continuous release of water from Ranjit Sagar, Pong Dam and Bhakra Dam and rain, there is a flood situation in the Ravi, Sutlej and Beas rivers. The administration, NDRF, SDRF and army teams are continuously engaged in rescuing people.

Kajle village in Bamiyal area of ​​Pathankot was flooded up to ten feet. The help of the army had to be taken to save the villagers. 12 people were evacuated by helicopter. NDRF rescued 14 people from Masanpur village. Several villages were submerged in floods after the Dhussi dam broke at four places in Gurdaspur and Kapurthala. Several BSF posts on the international border have also been submerged in water.

The Punjab government has set up control rooms in all districts to help the flood-affected people. A state-level control room has been set up in Jalandhar. Rescue operations are going on on a war footing in the flood-affected areas. The leaves of officers and employees have been cancelled. On Tuesday, Cabinet Ministers Barinder Kumar Goyal and Lal Chand Kataruchak reviewed the flood-affected areas. Goyal said that 70 people have been shifted to safer places with the help of NDRF and Army.
