    FM Cheema approves filling of 1,568 vacant posts of ANM and staff nurses

    Taking a major step towards strengthening and improving the healthcare infrastructure of the state, Punjab Finance Minister Advocate Harpal Singh Cheema today announced that the Finance Department has approved the proposal of the Health and Family Welfare Department to fill 1,568 vacant posts of ANM and Staff Nurses under the National Health Mission (NHM).

    Giving more details about the recruitment drive, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said that under this approval, 729 vacant posts out of the total 2,000 sanctioned posts of ANM and 839 vacant posts out of the 1896 sanctioned posts of Staff Nurses will be filled.

    He stressed that the state government is committed to ensuring that there is no disruption in healthcare services due to a shortage of staff, and hence priority has been given to filling these contractual posts. Finance Minister Cheema said that these recruitments are estimated to have a total financial impact of Rs 48.88 crore annually.

    He said that the state government will bear an annual expenditure of Rs 18.98 crore for the posts of ANMs and Rs 29.90 crore for staff nurses. He said that under the approved salary structure, the salary has been fixed at Rs 21,700 per month for ANMs and Rs 29,700 per month for staff nurses.

    Finance Minister Cheema further said that to ensure eligibility and transparency, the recruitment process is proposed to be conducted through a written examination by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot.

    He further said that the Finance Department has given this approval on the condition that the Health Department ensures the necessary consent from the Personnel Department regarding these appointments.
