Fog alert issued for Punjab and Chandigarh until Lohri: Cold day conditions in 5 cities

People in Punjab and Chandigarh will continue to experience fog until Lohri, and a cold wave is also likely. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for dense fog, cold wave, and cold day conditions for today, January 9th. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature has registered a slight increase of 0.1 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours.

However, this is still 5.5 degrees Celsius below normal. Cold day conditions were recorded in Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. Visibility in Amritsar was recorded at 150 meters, while Bathinda was the coldest with a temperature of 5 degrees Celsius.

Cold Wave Expected in 4 Districts

According to Surender Pal Singh, Director of the Chandigarh Meteorological Department, the Western Disturbance near Jammu has now shifted to the northern Punjab region. It is active at an altitude of about 3 km above the ground. Along with this, high-speed winds are blowing at very high altitudes over North India, with speeds of approximately 140 kilometers per hour.

Due to this, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Barnala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, and Patiala will experience the effects of the cold today. ​​A cold wave is likely in some areas of Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Bathinda, and Mansa.

Cold day conditions are expected to prevail throughout the day in some parts of Amritsar, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. The weather will generally remain dry and clear. The minimum temperature will drop.
