Fog Fury: Gravel laden truck overturned; multiple vehicles collide

Punjab is currently gripped by dense fog and a cold wave. These conditions are expected to persist throughout the day and night. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for fog and a cold wave.

On the National Highway from Verka in Amritsar to Pathankot, a truck loaded with gravel suddenly lost control due to dense fog and overturned in the middle of the road. The gravel spilled onto the road, causing a massive traffic jam. Several vehicles coming from behind collided due to the dense fog.

Flights affected due to Fog 

The fog also affected flights at Chandigarh Airport. The flight to Delhi, scheduled for 5:45 AM, departed at 7:31 AM. Similarly, the flight to Lucknow scheduled for 5:55 AM departed at 7:13 AM. The flight to Chennai, scheduled for 7:20 AM, departed at 8:08 AM.

Flights to Hyderabad at 6:25 AM and to Delhi at 7:10 AM were also affected. Similarly, the flight arriving from Delhi at 5:40 AM was delayed. Flights arriving from Jaipur at 7:15 AM, Bengaluru at 7:30 AM, and Delhi at 7:55 AM have been cancelled. At Amritsar Airport, an Air India flight arriving from Birmingham was delayed. This flight will land in Amritsar at 12:17 PM instead of 11:55 AM. Other flights are on schedule.

Advisory issued by Chandigarh Traffic Police 

Due to the fog, the Chandigarh Traffic Police issued an advisory for the public. Drivers are advised to avoid traveling during foggy conditions. If travel is unavoidable, they should drive slowly, use low beam headlights, and use hazard lights (indicators/blinkers).

They should also maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front. Do not change lanes and be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists.
