Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar Arrives in France for G-7 Meeting

Paris: India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar arrived in France on Thursday to attend the G-7 Foreign Ministers’ Meeting. He will also hold bilateral talks with foreign ministers from several countries.

Jaishankar stated on social media that he received a warm welcome from French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrois.

Global Issues to Be Discussed

Jaishankar is participating in a two-day meeting of G-7 countries and partner nations. Important global issues such as the war in Ukraine and tensions in West Asia will be discussed at the meeting.

According to the French Foreign Ministry, issues related to de-escalating tensions in the Middle East, ensuring the safety of civilians, and resuming trade routes will also be discussed.

Support to Ukraine, Pressure on Russia

G-7 countries will emphasize continued support to Ukraine in energy and other sectors and will formulate a strategy to increase pressure on Russia.

The situation in regions such as the Indo-Pacific, Sudan, Haiti, Gaza, Venezuela, and Cuba will also be discussed.

Focus on Drug Trafficking and Security

The meeting will also consider raising funds to repair the damaged infrastructure of Chernobyl and preventing the smuggling of the synthetic drug “Captagon” into Syria.

The G-7 countries will also discuss plans to create a task force against drug trafficking and hold a “No Money for Terror” conference to prevent terrorist financing.

Emphasis will also be placed on securing critical mineral supply chains and enhancing global cooperation.
