Rajkot: The mysterious death of a former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) election candidate has sparked controversy in Gujarat, with family members alleging foul play and demanding a murder investigation.
Twenty-three-year-old Nandani Bosamiya, who had previously contested the Jetpur-Navagadh Municipal Corporation elections on an AAP ticket, was found hanging inside a flat near Gondal Chowkdi in Rajkot. While preliminary police findings suggest a case of suicide, the victim’s family has strongly disputed the theory, claiming that she was killed and the scene was later staged to resemble a suicide.
The case has now attracted the attention of the Gujarat State Women’s Commission, which has sought a detailed report from police authorities.
Live-In Relationship Comes Under Scanner
Investigators have found that Nandani had been living in Rajkot with Aslam Hussain, a resident of Junagadh, under a live-in arrangement. During the course of the investigation, police also discovered that Aslam is married and has a child.
According to family members, tensions had been escalating in the relationship over the past few months. They alleged that frequent disputes occurred because Aslam regularly visited his wife and family in Junagadh.
Police are now examining the nature of the relationship, communication records and circumstances leading up to Nandani’s death.
Family Raises Questions Over Suicide Theory
Nandani’s relatives have alleged that physical evidence at the scene does not support the initial conclusion of suicide.
Her sister, Rupal Bosamiya, claimed that injury marks were visible on Nandani’s neck, hands and face. She also alleged that the condition of the room suggested signs of a struggle before her death.
The family further claimed that Nandani had previously faced harassment and attacks linked to disputes involving Aslam’s family. According to them, the couple had shifted from Junagadh to Rajkot following earlier conflicts.
Adding another dimension to the case, relatives alleged that Aslam and one of his relatives have been untraceable since the incident, with their mobile phones reportedly switched off.
Final Message and Mental Distress
The victim’s father, Anandbhai Bosamiya, alleged that his daughter had been under severe emotional stress for nearly a year.
Family members claim that shortly before her death, Nandani sent a message expressing her desire to end the relationship. According to them, she stated that she had financially supported Aslam by pledging her jewellery and felt trapped in her circumstances.
The contents of the message are expected to form a crucial part of the investigation.
Police Await Forensic Report
Authorities have sent the body for a forensic post-mortem examination and are awaiting the report before deciding the next course of action.
Police officials said all angles are being investigated, including suicide, abetment to suicide and possible homicide. Efforts are also underway to trace Aslam Hussain, whose location is being tracked through technical surveillance.
Investigators have stated that further legal action will depend on forensic findings, witness statements and other evidence collected during the probe.
With conflicting claims emerging from the family and preliminary police findings, the case is likely to remain under close scrutiny in the coming days.
