Couple Found Dead in Maheshtala Flat, Suspected Suicide

Kolkata: In a tragic incident, the bodies of a man and his wife were recovered from a flat in Maheshtala, South 24 Parganas district, on Sunday. The deceased have been identified as Tanmoy Dey (52) and his wife Ruma Rakshit (47).

Bodies Found Locked Inside Flat

The incident took place in Ward No. 15 of Maheshtala Municipality near Kolkata. Family members, unable to contact the couple for several hours, grew suspicious and rushed to the flat. Finding the door locked from the inside, they informed the police. Authorities broke open the door and discovered the couple lying unconscious on the bedroom bed. Several empty boxes of sleeping pills were found scattered around them.

Rushed to Hospital, Declared Dead

Tanmoy and Ruma were immediately taken to Vidyasagar Hospital in Behala, South Kolkata. Doctors declared both dead on arrival. Preliminary investigations suggest that the couple may have committed suicide, possibly due to prolonged financial difficulties.

Investigation Underway

Police are questioning family members to understand the motive behind the suspected suicide. Authorities are also investigating whether there were other factors involved. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and the exact cause and time of death will be determined once the report is available. Meanwhile, a case of unnatural death has been registered, and further investigation is ongoing.
