Punjab: Former Punjab Chief Minister and Jalandhar MP Charanjit Singh Channi conducted a surprise inspection along the Sutlej river in Jalandhar around midnight on Monday. Channi streamed the entire operation live on social media.
He alleged that upon reaching the riverbank, he found huge piles of sand and claimed that heavy machinery was being used for illegal sand mining.
Channi Alleges ‘Black Englishmen’ Are Looting Punjab
During the live broadcast, Channi said that “black Englishmen are looting Punjab.” He was seen opening the door of a tipper truck to inspect it, while the driver allegedly tried to hide. Moving further into the area, Channi claimed he could hear the sound of heavy machinery operating in the darkness.
Villagers Gathered After Watching Live Broadcast
As the inspection was streamed live on social media, residents of nearby villages also reached the spot. Channi interacted with the locals and alleged that illegal mining was being carried out with the government’s patronage.
Stayed at the Spot for Nearly Five Hours
Channi remained at the site for nearly five hours. The late-night inspection comes at a time when the internal conflict within the Punjab Congress is at its peak, with Channi’s live broadcast of the alleged illegal mining adding another political flashpoint.
