Former Punjab Finance Minister Majithia gets setback from HC; denied bail in DA case

Former Punjab minister and Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia has suffered a setback from the Punjab and Haryana High Court. He has not been granted bail. He will now have to approach the Supreme Court for bail, although an order in this matter has not yet been issued.

He was arrested on June 25th and has been in jail for five months. Meanwhile, a Mohali court will hear today the petition to declare Bikram Majithia’s brother-in-law, Gajpat Singh Grewal, a fugitive. His lawyer will file a response during this hearing. He has already been named in the case.

200 witnesses named in the case

The Vigilance Department has filed a charge sheet against Bikram Singh Majithia. The charge sheet also includes statements from several Akali and BJP leaders. It is being claimed that the Vigilance Department filed the charge sheet on time. The Vigilance Department claims to have examined records of 400 bank accounts spanning ten years. 200 witnesses have been named in the case.

A government witness has been named as an accused.

Four days ago, the Vigilance Bureau arrested Harpreet Singh Gulati, a close associate of Majithia. The Vigilance lawyer stated that he was previously a government witness, but he was not cooperating with the investigation.

It is alleged that the former minister acquired properties in Shimla and Delhi through Gulati. The accused was produced in a Mohali court today and the Vigilance Bureau obtained a six-day remand. The victim’s side claims that the accused was previously a government witness for the Vigilance Bureau, while the Vigilance Bureau claims that they have now found evidence during the investigation.

The case has been registered following this. Previously, the Vigilance Bureau filed an application against Majithia’s brother-in-law, Gajpat Singh Grewal, in the Mohali District Court. Preparations are underway to declare him a fugitive. A hearing will be held on December 1st.
