In Mukerian, Punjab, a former Sarpanch and press secretary of the Pagdi Sambhal Jatta Lehar was murdered with sharp weapons. The incident occurred in Nangal Awana village. A dispute had arisen between the former Sarpanch and farmer leader Saurabh Minhas, alias Billa.
The dispute involved land. Residents reported that a villager attacked Billa with a sharp-edged weapon nine times. The former Sarpanch was seriously injured. He was immediately rushed to Civil Hospital, Mukerian. After receiving first aid, doctors referred him to Jalandhar, where he succumbed to his injuries at 1 a.m. Friday night.
The Jalandhar-Pathankot highway was blocked demanding the arrest of the accused.
While Saurabh was on his way to the village for some work, another villager attacked him with a stone. He was stabbed multiple times in the stomach. The repeated blows caused Saurabh to fall unconscious.
Farmer groups block the highway in Mukerian
Furious over this, family members and farmer groups blocked the Mukerian-Jalandhar National Highway on Friday. People sat on the highway for half an hour, causing a long traffic jam. Family members claim that the attack on Saurabh was part of a conspiracy.
Protests will intensify if the accused is not arrested.
Farmer leaders stated that farmer leader Saurabh Minhas was murdered with a sharp-edged weapon. A thorough investigation into the incident is warranted. If the investigation is not conducted and the accused is not arrested, protests will be launched in the future.
The police have completed the paperwork and have assured to apprehend the accused. Farmer leaders stated that the killer of Saurabh, the press secretary of the Kisan Union Pagdi Sambhal Jatta Lehar, will be apprehended as soon as possible.
