Fortuner overturns in Mohali; two including a gym owner killed

A severe road accident occurred early Friday morning near the ITI Chowk in the Lalru police station area of ​​Mohali. A speeding Fortuner car, en route to Delhi, went out of control and overturned after hitting a divider when a stray animal suddenly appeared in its path.

Manjot Singh, a 23-year-old gym owner from Ludhiana, and the driver, Ravi, lost their lives in this tragic accident, while two other occupants of the car survived unharmed. The police have initiated proceedings under Section 194 of the BNSS.

Amarpal Singh (a resident of BRS Nagar, Ludhiana), father of the deceased gym owner Manjot Singh, informed the police that his son had set out for Delhi in a Fortuner car around 11:45 PM on Thursday, accompanied by his friend Akash Verma, security guard Rajiv Kumar Pandey, and driver Ravi Kumar.

On Friday morning, as the vehicle reached the ITI Chowk in Lalru, a stray animal suddenly appeared in front of it. In an attempt to avoid the animal, driver Ravi Kumar lost control of the vehicle, causing it to crash into the divider and overturn.

Two survived; family calls it ‘just an accident’

Upon receiving news of the accident, the family members arrived at the hospital and learned of the deaths of Manjot Singh and driver Ravi Kumar. Manjot’s friend, Akash Verma, who was in the car, sustained minor injuries, while security guard Rajiv Kumar Pandey remained completely unharmed.

In his statement to the police, the deceased’s father clarified that it was an accidental mishap and involved no negligence on anyone’s part. He declined to pursue legal action against anyone. The police have handed over the bodies to the next of kin following post-mortem examinations and have initiated further investigation into the matter.
