Four members of a family from Kerala killed in road accident in Saudi Arabia

Malappuram: Four members of a family from Manjeri town in Kerala’s Malappuram district died in a horrific road accident in Medina, Saudi Arabia. The tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the family and the local community.

The deceased have been identified as Abdul Jaleel (52), a resident of Vellila (Manjeri), his mother Mamunath Kakkengal (73), wife Thasna Thodengal (40), and 14-year-old son Adil Jaleel. According to preliminary reports, all four died on the spot in the accident on Saturday evening.

Accident occurred while returning from Umrah pilgrimage

The accident occurred when the family was traveling by car from Mecca to Jeddah after completing the Umrah. Their car collided with a truck on the highway near Medina, causing serious damage to the vehicle. The cause of the accident has not yet been officially confirmed by Saudi authorities.

Three other family members—Abdul Jalil’s daughters, Ayesha, Hadiya, and Noora—were seriously injured in the accident. They have been admitted to various hospitals in Saudi Arabia, where their condition is reported to be critical. According to hospital sources, the injured girls are under close medical supervision.

Mourning in Manjeri, Preparations underway to bring back the bodies

Abdul Jalil had been working in Jeddah for the past several years, and his family had traveled to Saudi Arabia on a tourist visa specifically to perform Umrah. The accident occurred shortly after completing the religious pilgrimage.

This tragic news has cast a pall of gloom over Manjeri and the surrounding areas. Their home in Vellila has been thronged by relatives, neighbors, and community members. Condolence messages are pouring in from across the district and from Keralites living in the Gulf countries.

Efforts are being made to complete legal formalities and bring the bodies back to India in coordination with the Saudi authorities. Kerala diaspora organizations and community groups in Saudi Arabia are also assisting the bereaved family.
