Four Members of Patiala family consume poison: Father-Daughter die; Mother-Son critical

Four members of the same family in Patiala consumed a poisonous substance. Their condition subsequently deteriorated, and they were admitted to Rajindra Hospital; the father and daughter passed away during treatment, while the mother and son are currently undergoing treatment.

The deceased include the father, Vikas Batish (45), and the daughter, Khushi Batish (13), while the mother, Tamanna Batish (43), and the son, Kanav (11), remain in critical condition. DSP City-1 Sanjeev Singla stated that a preliminary investigation has revealed a dispute regarding a domestic financial matter. The police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examinations.

Consumed poison at night; hospitalized after condition worsened

According to reports, Vikas Batish—a resident of the city’s Officers’ Colony—along with his wife Tamanna Batish, daughter Khushi Batish, and son Kanav Batish, consumed poison. Their health suddenly deteriorated, prompting people to rush them to Rajindra Hospital.

Despite medical treatment, there was no improvement in the condition of Vikas Batish and his daughter Khushi, and both succumbed. However, his wife Tamanna and son Kanav are still undergoing treatment; their condition is reported to be critical, and a team of doctors is monitoring them.

Police informed by the hospital

DSP City-1 Sanjeev Singla stated that the preliminary investigation points to a dispute over domestic financial dealings. The police received information about the incident from the hospital on Wednesday night. Upon receiving the news, the police arrived at the hospital and conducted an inquiry. The bodies of the deceased have been taken into custody and sent for post-mortem examinations; the exact cause of death will be confirmed once the reports are received.

Police investigating the matter

DSP Sanjeev Singla stated that the police are gathering further evidence. Family members and neighbors are being questioned to clarify the circumstances under which the incident occurred. If any new facts emerge during the investigation, further action will be taken accordingly. The entire matter is currently under investigation; only then can anything be said about the circumstances under which the family consumed poison and the reason behind it.
