Fresh Row in Bihar Politics Over Alleged Abuses Against PM Modi’s Mother

Patna, Bihar: Days after derogatory remarks were hurled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother Heeraben Modi from the stage of the Vote Adhikar Yatra in Darbhanga, a new controversy has surfaced during an RJD rally addressed by Tejashwi Yadav.

BJP Shares Video, Levels Charges Against RJD
On Saturday, Bihar BJP shared a video on X, claiming that slogans insulting the Prime Minister’s mother were raised during Yadav’s rally.

In its post, the BJP alleged: “Tejashwi again facilitated the verbal abuse of Modi ji’s mother at his rally. The more abusive slogans RJD workers raised, the more Tejashwi encouraged them. RJD-Congress has one programme — abuse mothers and sisters. Bihar will not forget those abusing a mother.”

The party accused the RJD-Congress alliance of “frustration” and declared that “Bihar’s mothers and sisters will respond to these abuses.”

RJD, Congress Counter Allegations
The RJD dismissed the charges, asserting that the video circulated by BJP was “doctored” to malign its image ahead of the Assembly polls.

Congress MP Imran Masood hit back, saying: “Nityanand Rai, Minister of State for Home, should resign first. You can’t catch the abuser — that shows weak governance. You have agencies like the NIA, then why no strict action? Instead, the BJP is playing victim politics.”

UP Congress chief Surendra Rajput criticised the BJP for “seeking votes in the name of PM Modi’s late mother,” calling it “unfortunate and disrespectful.”

Voices from Other Leaders
Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav, condemned the use of offensive language:
“It is absolutely wrong to abuse anyone in any programme. A mother is honourable; those who have used such words should be expelled, FIRs lodged, and strict action taken. Abusing anyone’s caste, bloodline, or family weakens society.”

He also linked the incident to earlier derogatory remarks by political leaders, adding that “those who insult mothers are enemies of culture and values.”

PM Modi Responds
Amid the uproar, Prime Minister Modi himself weighed in, telling a public gathering:
“I want to tell those who abused my mother in front of the people of Bihar — Modi might forgive you once, but the land of Bihar and India has never tolerated insult to a mother.”
