Fresh Snowfall and Weather Alert in Himachal Pradesh

Himachal Pradesh: The high mountains of Himachal Pradesh experienced fresh snowfall last night. Snowfall in areas like the Atal Tunnel, Shinkula, and Rohtang Pass has brought back cold to the high mountains. According to the Meteorological Department (IMD), the weather will remain poor in many parts of the state today.

Yellow Alert Issued in Several Districts

The International Monetary Fund (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for rain, thunderstorms, and lightning today in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, and Shimla districts. Rain accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms is expected in these areas, while normal weather is forecast for other parts of the state.

Shimla was also experiencing light clouds this morning. The western disturbance will weaken over the next two days, tomorrow and the day after. This will bring clear weather to the mid-elevation and plains of the state. However, this relief will not last long.

Heavy rain and hailstorm again on 3-4

The International Monetary Fund (IMD) has issued a warning of worsening weather conditions on April 3rd and 4th. During this period, heavy rain, thunderstorms, and snowfall are expected in many parts of the state, and these weather conditions are expected to persist until April 5th.

Meanwhile, Shimla city and Kumarsain experienced heavy hailstorms last evening, damaging stone fruit, pea, and cauliflower crops.

Rainfall Update Across the State

Meanwhile, the weather changed in many areas of the state during the past 24 hours. Several areas, including Shimla, Dharamshala, and Kangra, recorded good rainfall. Dharamshala received the highest rainfall of 27 mm.

Sharp Drop in Temperature

The change in weather has led to a significant drop in temperatures. Temperatures in many cities have dropped by up to 10 degrees below normal. Chamba’s maximum temperature dropped 10.8 degrees below normal to 18.6 degrees Celsius, while Shimla’s temperature dropped 3.1 degrees below normal to 15.8 degrees Celsius, and Dharamshala’s temperature dropped 3.7 degrees to 21 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Department has advised people to remain alert during bad weather, especially while travelling in hilly and sensitive areas.
