On 17 July, the Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth over ₹14,700 crore. These include the Jind–Sonipat hydrogen train, the Kurukshetra elevated railway track, medical colleges in Bhiwani and Narnaul, the Delhi–Ambala–Katra highway, and the Ambala–Kala Amb and Jind–Gohana national highways. The foundation stone for the Sikh Museum in Kurukshetra and the Hansi–Barwala highway will also be laid, giving new direction to the state’s cultural and infrastructural development.

These projects are expected to strengthen Haryana’s economic growth, healthcare services, transport, investment, and employment while contributing to the vision of a Viksit Bharat.

Hydrogen Train: The Future of Rail Technology

Hydrogen technology is based on a fuel-cell system in which a chemical reaction between stored hydrogen and atmospheric oxygen generates electrical energy. The only by-products are water and heat, making it a clean alternative that produces no polluting gases.

This technology is particularly effective for rail routes where complete electrification is not practical and also helps reduce dependence on fossil fuels.

Indian Railways has already introduced extensive reforms in operations, safety, and energy management. Rapid electrification, indigenous safety systems, and the growing use of renewable energy have made the railway network more modern and environmentally responsible. The hydrogen train represents the next major milestone, strengthening energy security while reducing dependence on imported fuel.

Germany gained global recognition by launching the world’s first commercial hydrogen passenger train service, and countries such as China have since accelerated the development and testing of similar technology. India’s initiative demonstrates that the country is not merely following global trends but actively participating in shaping the future of sustainable transport. The Jind–Sonipat service will stand as a symbol of Indian engineering capability and commitment to clean energy.

In line with the National Green Hydrogen Mission, integrating hydrogen technology into rail transport will accelerate India’s energy transition and provide an environmentally friendly solution for routes where conventional electrification is not feasible. Haryana becoming the first destination for this historic initiative reflects the state’s developed infrastructure and effective implementation capacity.
