Gang war in Khanna: Two youths injured in shooting, dispute due to cricket tournament

A clash between two rival groups, stemming from an old enmity, broke out in Rasulda village near Khanna town, Ludhiana. Two youths were injured in the ensuing gunfire; one sustained a bullet wound to his thigh. Both injured individuals have been admitted to Khanna Civil Hospital for treatment.

According to reports, the dispute between the two sides began a few days ago over a cricket tournament held in Rasulda village. Since then, the groups had been exchanging threats and engaging in constant verbal altercations.

Late Sunday evening, the two groups confronted each other near the canal distributary (*sua*) road in Rasulda village, as previously arranged. The situation escalated rapidly, leading to an exchange of fire. One youth was shot in the thigh, while the other also sustained injuries. Several vehicles were vandalized during the incident. Both groups fled the scene after the shooting. Upon receiving the information, the police arrived at the location and initiated an investigation.

Kotli visits the injured

Former Minister Gurkirat Singh Kotli visited Khanna Civil Hospital on Sunday night to inquire about the condition of the injured. He condemned the incident—where a dispute over a village cricket tournament led to a shooting—as highly deplorable. He also raised questions regarding the law and order situation. Notably, Gurkirat Singh Kotli had attended the cricket tournament—which sparked the dispute—as the chief guest.

Accused identified: DSP Vinod Kumar

Khanna DSP Vinod Kumar stated that Harpinder Singh and Arshdeep Singh were injured in the incident. Harpinder sustained a gunshot wound to his thigh. The police have identified the accused and registered a case. Continuous raids are being conducted to apprehend them. He assured that all the accused would be arrested soon.
