Gas Leak at Ludhiana Factory kills 3 including Father-Son; Several workers unconscious

A sudden leak of toxic gas occurred late at night at a factory in Ludhiana that manufactures wrenches and spanners. The tragedy resulted in the deaths of three people including a father and son due to asphyxiation, while several laborers working inside the factory collapsed; the condition of many is reported to be critical.

According to eyewitnesses, work was proceeding as usual at the factory. Suddenly, a leak began in a gas pipeline. Within just a few minutes, the toxic gas spread throughout the factory premises. The effects of the gas were so rapid and severe that the laborers present did not even have the opportunity to escape outside. Suffering from asphyxiation and severe burning sensations in their eyes, many workers collapsed to the ground right inside the factory.

Panic ensued in the area as soon as news of the accident broke. The deceased have been identified as the father, Man Singh; his son, Amit; and a third individual named Shri Ram. Man Singh and Amit had gone to load the debris generated by the machinery into a trolley when they were caught in the accident. Amit was married and is survived by a one-year-old daughter.

Daughter of the Deceased Speaks: “We Were Not Informed”

Renu, the daughter of the deceased Man Singh, stated that both her father and brother had gone to work that night. “They usually return home between 2:00 and 3:00 AM. We kept calling them, but no one answered. We went to the factory in the morning. When we arrived, we saw a tractor parked there. We were told that they had been admitted to the hospital.”

“They did not call us or provide us with any information beforehand. It was only when we reached the hospital that we learned my father and brother had passed away.” She added, “A total of three people have died. My father’s name was Man Singh, and my brother’s name was Amit. I do not know the name of the third victim.”

“The factory is primarily engaged in other manufacturing work, but at night, they would have the debris cleared out. We still have very little information about what actually happened.” The surviving family members include her mother and her sister-in-law (brother’s wife); her brother also leaves behind a daughter who is about one and a half years old. The family resides in the Giaspura area. She further noted that, as of now, even the factory owner has not yet arrived at the scene.
