Security agencies have launched an investigation in a village in Ghaziabad district of Uttar Pradesh after a youth allegedly expressed his desire on social media to join the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed.

The incident has created panic in the village, which has a population of around 34,000 people, as authorities try to verify whether the post was merely an attempt to attract attention or part of a larger radicalisation network.

Officials said the controversial post used the term “jihadi” and indicated interest in joining a terrorist organisation. As soon as the message came to the attention of law enforcement agencies, local police and intelligence units began an inquiry into the matter.
