Giani Harpreet Singh withdraws name from Shiromani Akali Dal presidency race, supports Bibi Satwant Kaur

Amritsar, August 8: Ahead of the election session scheduled for August 11 for the presidency of the Shiromani Akali Dal, an important developer, former Jathedar Shri Akal Takht Sahib, Giani Harpreet Singh has withdrawn himself from the election contest.

In a message issued through a tweet, he said that he has been informed that, along with his name, the name of Bibi Satwant Kaur, who is the daughter of Amar Shaheed Bhai Amrik Singh, is also being discussed for the presidency of the Shiromani Akali Dal. He said that voices of support are being raised for both the sides.

However, Giani Harpreet Singh, expressing his deep respect for Bibi Satwant Kaur, said that he does not want to join the race for the presidency against her under any circumstances. He said, “I have a lot of respect for that sister of mine.”

He appealed to the five-member committee and requested that his name not be considered for the presidency. He also thanked the committee at the end.
